Today, on my way to lunch at the Silverspoon at the Promenade in Bonita Springs, Florida and I almost got creamed by a septic tank truck. When I got my brakes unlocked, I caught up with him and this is what I saw.

I don't know what's funnier, the fact that I almost died covered in Ka Ka or the business slogan of Amberjack Sanitation, Incorporated. It's a dirty job, somebody's gotta do it, right? Finally, I've made it up to Bonita Bay to take a picture of the tree on the lake, yes on the lake. It's a floating tree.  Naturally, the photos don't do it justice.  If you get in the area of the Bonita Bay entrance at West Terry Street you can see it for yourself.  You'll also be in an area to see some great decorations and lights.  Two blocks east on West Terry Street there is an awesome displace on Edenbridge Court and closer to the railroad tracks on Riverside Drive there are several houses that are gleaming.  Riverside Park is in full color, too.

Bonita Springs Homeowner Insurance

The Southwest Florida and Bonita Springs area has not gone without insurance growing pains.  A few years ago, after a succession of storms, big insurance dumped us.  Almost every one of us lost our insurance; cancelled on the spot.  Shamefully, our government allowed it to happen.  Our local Bonita springs insurance brokers were faced with telling customers they have had for years that they couldn't write policies in certain areas, usually by zip code.

One of my favorite Bonita Springs insurance brokers, Ridge Jones was unable to write my homeowner's policy after I was cancelled.  I ended up on the state run "Citizen's" insurance through a different broker.  My home owner policy just came up for renewal and I decided to call Ridge and give it another shot.  Lo and behold he has authorization to write policies again in most areas including where my home is in Bonita Springs.

Why does this make a difference to me?  Why does this make a difference to you, as a Bonita Springs Home Owner?  Ridge has a boutique insurance company called Jones & Jones.  When you call the office you'll likely have it answered by one of two people, and one of those people is Ridge himself.  It's the same greeting procedure when you walk thru the door at Jones & Jones.  From phone call to signing the policy was only as fast as I could drive over the Imperial River Bridge and hang a right to his office.  THAT is service.

Gulfcoast Town Center Dining & Wifi

Today, my action packed adventures have taken me back and forth across Lee County twice...so far.  In the middle of my day I shuttled my parents from their home in Bonita Springs to the SW Florida International Airport so they can fly home to Amherst, Ohio for Christmas.  BOO!  I don't think they're going up just to spend it with their small grandchildren.  It's to see my brother who is the favorite, I'm sure.  Clearly, they're masking their motivation.  Let there be snow and tons of it.  Blizzard of '78 anyone?

As luck would have it my friend Mae called as I was leaving the airport and on my way to check my Stoneybrook home listing.  Mae was just leaving FGCU.  We decided to grab lunch at the new Gulfcoast Town Center which is just north of the college and Miromar Lakes.  I was hoping to hit the new Pita Pit but instead we ended up next door at the Calistoga Bakery.  I've included a few photos (yes, I'm with camera at all times) because it's an awesome eatery.  The lounge area reminds me of a ski resort with big overstuffed chairs, coffee tables, stone fireplace and wifi anywhere you can pick up a signal.  I guess that would make it BETTER than a ski resort because, in my opinion, ski resorts have crappy wifi and they charge for it, too.

Calistoga also has great outdoor seating.  It's an excellent stop for fast lunch or a long coffee to check email - tons of seating, super clean and nearly spankin' new.

I welcome anyone's review of any other stores, restaurants or shops at Gulfcoast Town Center.  I just am not a shopper and it would save me tremendous anguish and pain to let you personally review your favorite spot at this mall.  Just call or email Chris.  239-273-7430 So, save a REALTOR, save the world and mail me a review of your favorites at Gulfcoast Town Center or a review of the place where you work.

This gal is a gymnast and was flipping and such at the Barefoot Beach in Bonita Springs.  I captured this photo of her jumping for joy.   Ah, to be 20 years old again...  I guess the Bonita Beach brings out the happy in everyone.  This photo was taken at the South end of Barefoot Beach at the state park - tortoise preserve area by Wiggins Pass.  It's my favorite beach in Bonita Springs.  Oh, there are facilities, snacks and canoe & cabana rentals availabable.  Just bring your towel, a couple of bucks and sunscreen.

  Bonita Bubbles Car Wash

The dirtiest car in sunny Bonita Springs usually is registered to me.  I hate washing cars.  The worst thing that happened to me in the last year was when I drove to a puddle of tar.  Apparently, baby oil will melt tar.  At least that is what my son the pavement-ologist says.  He neglected to share that it takes hours to do so, tons of elbow grease and it wrecks your nails.  My hands looked like Shrek's by the time I was done.  At any rate, that oil trick was handy while they widened Tamiami Trail through Bonita Springs.  As luck would have it I ended up needing to have my detailed more than one time because of an "incident" with the contractor that did the work.

The lesson is learned - I am not qualified to wash, clean or detail a car.  I am NOT a specialist.  I have since taken the time to find a specialist.  Bonita Bubbles.  It's a super cool carwash that take about 10 minutes, tops.  Vacuum, interior wipe down, exterior wash and towel dry all for eleven bucks!   You can't beat that with a stick.  I am a better car owner now.  Bonita Bubbles is only a couple of blocks from my office so it's easy to swing in and get the car washed before taking buyers out looking for Bonita Springs real estate. 

Hound Dog, The Prada Purse, leaves nose prints on the passenger window.  Bonita Bubbles even includes nose print removal at no additional charge.  Don't you just love that, dog lovers?

If you live in the area stop in and treat your car to a bath.  If you have friends (psst. or a Realtor) in the area buy a coupon book for them.  It will make a great gift. 

Bonita Bubbles is in front of Pelican Landing about ¼ mile North of Old 41 Road on US 41 - Tamiami Trail on the west side of the highway just across the street from Marble Works.

Naples Home Expo

My third least favorite store to go to besides Best Buy and Ace Hardware.... No offense, I'm just not a shopper.  Having just completed a remodel in my own Bonita Springs home the Home Expo signifies to me only lost weekends and extensive drywall dust, the likes of which I'm still dealing with.  (Sorry about the preposition at the end of that sentence I'm to lazy to restructure today.)  Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy looking the Expo on occasion just because it's so beautiful and everything is organized just so.  Just like a book store.  Its presentation seduces you into believing ...

"Buy this neatly organized stuff and your house will look  this good"

No, you still have the same house when you buy that stuff; it's just that now you have a great set of wicker laundry baskets to put in the middle of your dirty laundry.  They don't show you the dirty laundry at Home Expo.  You get the neatly packaged, sanitized version of how we all want our lives to look.  I almost fell for it last night at Z Gallery at Coconut Point, too. 

So enjoy this lovely photo of the Naples Home Expo.  I will share with you that I was laying in a chaise lounge chair, when I snapped this photo, waiting for something that is getting special ordered to be processed.  For the record, the lanai furniture is fantastic.  I've test driven every chaise lounge there.  They even have those tall, stainless steel, restaurant style outside heaters for patio's.  Yes, you northerners, it does get cool enough for us to use them.
