Visit the Ghost Orchid at Corkscrew Sanctuary Naples | 187/365 Things to Do
The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a fabulous place to visit in nature. It’s a huge preserve of the oldest cypress trees on the planet. It is also home to one of the most unique and coveted orchids, the Ghost Orchid. They’re hard to locate because they’re mostly a bundle of roots growing on a tree. It’s not until they blossom that they are spotted. The super-ghost orchid is in blossom right now. So it is the perfect time to visit the Sanctuary. There is usually a binocular set up so you can see it as it is pretty far up and away from the boardwalk.
There are seven flowers and one bud on the "Super" Ghost Orchid as of July 5 2019 at Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.
If you are looking for things to do with kids you can take advantage of the ‘kids free all Fourth of July’ weekend and see this endangered and beautiful orchid. The boardwalk is suitable for all ages and levels of mobility.
To learn more visit Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary which is located on Immokalee Road east just beyond Waterways of Naples. If you’re looking for things to do while you’re east of Naples drive to Ave Maria and grab lunch, too!
